Pinhole® treatment in Houston

Treat gum recession through a small entry point.

The Pinhole® Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive approach for selected gum-recession defects. Existing gum tissue is gently released and repositioned through a small access point, often supported with collagen.

No palatal donor site and no sutures at the treated recession sites. Candidacy still depends on tissue anatomy, inflammation control, oral habits, and long-term maintenance.

Are receding gums changing comfort or appearance?

Recession has different causes. The first step is to identify why the gum moved and whether Pinhole®, grafting, monitoring, or another approach best fits the site.

A tissue-preserving pathway

01

Recession evaluation

Measure the defects and assess gum thickness, inflammation, bone support, bite, brushing, and contributing habits.

02

Stabilize the environment

Address active inflammation and modifiable causes before surgery when needed.

03

Pinhole® procedure

Use a small entry point and specialized instruments to mobilize and reposition existing gum tissue; collagen may help stabilize it.

04

Protected healing

Follow eating, brushing, and activity restrictions closely while the tissue matures, then continue maintenance.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

Is Pinhole® the same as gum grafting?+

Both aim to improve recession, but the access and tissue management differ. Pinhole® repositions existing gum through a small entry point; traditional grafting may add donor or substitute tissue.

Can several teeth be treated?+

The technique may allow treatment of multiple adjacent recession sites, but the number and sequence depend on anatomy and clinical judgment.

Will it reduce sensitivity?+

Covering an exposed root may reduce sensitivity for some patients, but sensitivity can have other causes and improvement cannot be guaranteed.

What is recovery like?+

Patients must protect the repositioned tissue carefully. Instructions vary by case and may include temporary changes to brushing, diet, activity, and appliance use.
